Vanity

February 2nd, 2010

Since I’ve lost weight, my face has become noticeably older-looking. Without all the fat underneath to plump it up, I look sort of drawn and gaunt.

Also, WRINKLED.

GAH!

Specifically, those pesky naso-labial folds (aka: laugh lines) are aging me. I keep telling myself to wear them with pride as I’ve obviously smiled A LOT in my life, but who am I kidding? I’m only 33 and I’m wrinkled! I’ll be proud to be wrinkled at 50. Not now.

So, here’s where you come in… can you recommend a good, reasonably priced anti-wrinkle concoction? A moisturizer or treatment or something? I’m clueless about this stuff, but I’ve got my finger on the “add to cart” button over at Amazon. Just tell me what to try.

Sorry, I’m no help. But I’ve never once seen a photo of you and thought your face looked old or wrinkled, for what it’s worth.

I don’t know either… but I’ve also never noticed wrinkles. Probably not very helpful, but it’s all I got.

    I like Shelly’s suggestion!

But I think the best thing for those smile lines is Juviderm or on of the other injectables. But of course they are expensive. MY primary doctor actually does it in her office, and Botox too! I haven’t tried any, but the temptation is there.

I have totally noticed that I look way younger than less-plump women my own age. Even ACTRESSES my age look older than me! Plumpness has very few perks, but this is one.

Consumer Reports did a study a few years back and found that the only wrinkle-reducing cream (including drugstore stuff and the stuff that goes up to multiple hundreds of dollars) that worked was one by Oil of Olay.

Oh Swistle, I do so agree re: The Plumpness being an asset in regard to looking younger. I wish I could plump my face up with some of the fat that’s living in other, less convenient, areas of my body.

Also, thank you so much for the Olay info. I did a little internet investigatory research and saw that study. I stopped at Target on my way home and bought the Olay brand cleanser and the Target “compare to Olay Regenerist” night cream and moisturizer. They have the exact same ingredients as the Olay products, and they were each $5 cheaper. I don’t know if the amount of said ingredients is the same, but I figure it’s worth a shot.

I’ll report back with results in a few weeks : )

The rest of you are so sweet to say that I don’t look wrinkled in pictures. First of all, would I post an unflattering photo of myself on my very own blog? NEGATIVE. Secondly, my skin really looks worse at work under the overhead florescent lighting. Especially if it’s the least bit dry or flaky. *shudder* I figure if I nip this wrinkle business in the bud now, maybe it won’t get a whole lot worse.
