BALLS!

December 14th, 2009

Well, it’s official. There’s a penis in mah belly It’s a boy! And according to the sonogram tech, the weenis is “good sized.” Apparently, when my husband makes a boy, he makes A BOY.

I’m terrified. I have no idea how to work boys. Well, I do, obviously, but not like in a motherly way. Boys are the biggest mystery in the universe! I’ve never understood a single boy in my life! How am I supposed to raise one? Also, I sort of went nuts buying Teh Pink when I was pregnant with Maddie. This means that either our kid will be quite effeminate or tough as hell.

The upside is that I won’t have two teenage daughters at some point. However, now I have to worry about one kid getting knocked up and the other doing the knocking up.

According to measurements, Little Man is due May 31st. I’m still holding out for June 1st or 2nd. I think it’d be neat for him to share a birthday with his dad or my mom.

OMG! How exciting!!! I have two boys. They’re a piece of cake. Ok I don’t have any girls to compare them to, but I’m SURE you will be fabulous!!! Congratulations!

  5. Mama Bub on December 14, 2009 6:47 pm

Boys are great! And my son was due May 31st. That’s not when he was born, but it’s a good due date :)

BALLS indeed!!!!! We need a little testosterone in our children. Dude is going to be dressed in pink and uber sensitive if all our girls gang up on him.

  7. Jenna on December 14, 2009 7:11 pm

    PENIS! BALLS!

I love that I get to type that in your comments and not have it be totally inappropriate.

YAY! (also: I’d be scared to have a boy too, the unknown and all, but you’ll do great!)

  8. Swistle on December 14, 2009 7:20 pm

    Well!!!! BOY!!!!

  9. Jana on December 14, 2009 7:30 pm

Yay for boy! There’s something special about having an older girl and younger boy – it’s so much fun to watch that relationship develop.

  10. Jess on December 14, 2009 7:38 pm

So excited for you! You’ll figure out the boy thing as you go, I have no doubt. And I hear that boys are easier than girls in a lot of ways. So thrilled!

Yay for boys! I felt the same way when I had a boy, I hadn’t been around many baby/kid boys. I only knew how to deal with girls. But from the day I knew I was having a boy, I knew I wouldn’t have it any other boy. I have a snuggling little, mama loving boy. I go with the flow, and I think he’s turning out just fine. He’ll fit right into your family, and (most of the time) you’ll forget that you ever wondered what to do with a boy. Congrats!

Hrm. A surprisingly vague comment from Swistle. Seeing as she has 4 boys, this makes me a tad bit nervous…

  13. Erica on December 14, 2009 7:55 pm

Jenna, you are more than welcome to write “penis” or “balls” in my comments ANYTIME. It just doesn’t seem like it’d ever be inappropriate on this blog, you know?

    Yeah BALLS!

I have 3 girls and a boy. Honestly, I don’t really understand any of them :)

He’s different from his sisters, but not much different than they are from each other.

    Very exciting!

  15. Sarah on December 14, 2009 8:20 pm

Ha ha! Erica, I thought the same thing about Swistle’s comment. HMMM.
But. I have an older girl and younger boy, and I think it’s the bomb. Most of the time. It’s a fun combo and a fun order. I love watching Eli hug Addy and call her Sissy, and watching her mother hen him and call him Buster Eli. So little brother = yay!

  16. Lauren on December 14, 2009 8:31 pm

Awesome! How exciting! I am sure Maddie will be an awesome big sister!

  17. Devan on December 14, 2009 8:55 pm

    Congrats! Boys are amazing!

Next time you are in the state, let me unload clothes on you, no pink in those storage bins! :-) When you look at your husband and ask as the little man is climbing everything and just being a plain goofball if this is normal, he will just say yes. It all will be fine, you’ll figure out both of them and it will just work out. The trick is the time balancing but you’ll have more time when the baby is immobile to let Maddie adjust to having a little brother share “her” mom than we did. The gender thing is no biggie it’s the time management.

So exciting! Love the post too :)

Wow, that is just awesome! I’m so happy for you and so excited to see the little guy!

Also, as a mother of 3 girls (that WILL be teens at the same time SHOOT ME NOW!), I simply cannot image what it would be like to have a penis growing in my belly!

  21. Shelly on December 15, 2009 8:22 am

Yay! Boys are awesome! I have an older girl and younger boy. My boy is a fearless little cuss. He’s also a little snuggler, so kind of the best of both worlds.

  22. jen(melty) on December 15, 2009 8:58 am

Congrats! Boys are easy! and cuddly and it’s so different. I have an older girl/younger boys and they are the best of friends.

  23. Penny on December 15, 2009 4:36 pm

wow, awesome! I’m a new mother to a boy and I still have no idea, and it’s been 6 months. It’s definitely challenging the way I think about boys and men, though. I just really have no clue. Also tiny penises are really cute, no one prepared me for that one.

Am super happy that I did not splurge on pink early on right now. Still, my boy wore a puce turtleneck the other day and I was all, Wanna make something of it?!?

  24. grace on December 15, 2009 4:41 pm

YAY for boys! I have a older girl and younger boy. Like you, I was TERRIFIED! What are these creatures we call boys, anyway?

    Turns out, they are fantastic!

Added bonus…June 1st is my boys birthday!

    CONGRATS!
    HUGS!

Most of my sisters-in-laws had girls first, then boys. All the sister brother relationships are wonderful! They figured it out and so will you! I’m excited for you!

I was terrified of a boy as well, but man having a son is AWESOME. As much as I wanted to go crazy on the cute little girl clothes, little boy clothes are SO cute because oftentimes it’s all little miniature adult stuff and ooooh I love em. They say boys take longer and are slower to develop, but I havent’ found that to be the case – took to breastfeeding easily, is right up there where he needs to be developmentally, and is learning like crazy. I love my little mama’s boy.

I am hoping that our next can be a girl so that we can have that brother/sister bond that your kids will get. You are a lucky lady, congratulations!!
