RAWR!
So my kid is OBSESSED with dinosaurs. She wants to know what they’re all called and, well, I know pretty much jack shit about dinosaurs. Teh Google has been pretty helpful so far, but I was thinking it might be nice to get some age-appropriate reference material.
I’ve already gotten Maddie’s Christmas gifts, but her birthday is only three weeks after Christmas. I’m guessing that my kid isn’t the only one out there who constantly refers to herself as some type of dinosaur. (Examples: sneakasaurus, nakey-snakeysaurus, Rudy, & plain ol’ Tyrannosaurus.) Can any of you recommend some cool dinosaur toys or books?

When my cousin was little he was obsessed with a book called Dinosaur Dos and Don’ts. It was like a book of manners/behavior, but it used all different kinds of dinosaurs, and he got really good at identifying them all. It’s OLD (natch) and hasn’t ever been reprinted but you can get used ones on Amazon & eBay, it appears.

Erica,
What timing! It’s not a book, but my 4 yr old and I just watched “Dinosaur Train’ this morning. It is a new animated show on PBS. It doesn’t dumb it down at all. It talks about what species the dinosaurs are and what characteristics they have. I learned a lot too–LOL! And out of curiosity, what date is Maddie’s bday? Ally’s is Jan 20th, so we always shop for her bday and Christmas together.

There’s a cute set of books – How do Dinosaurs… Play With their Friday, Say Goodnight, etc. Some are board books, some are not. All cute!

Nothing specific, but M loves them too, and the stores are crawling with them.
My MIL has gotten her some of the How Do Dinosaurs… books, and they are great because they take the interest in dinosaurs and translate it in to being a good kid.
i also second Dinosaur Train, we’ve only seen it a few times, but I am in love with it. To heck with the two yea rold.

I hate to schill for myself, but I sell Usborne books which have TONS of cute dino books. Some are way advance (World Atlas of Dinosaurs) but they range from there all the way down to touchy feely books having to do with them. My personal faveorite? See Inside the World of Dinosaurs. (But you have to be the type of parent that’s OK with lift the flap books for that one…)
