quick post before the pain meds kick in:

May 14th, 2009

I’m home and fine. (As long as we’re using “fine” to mean in pain, tired and bitchy, that is.) The surgeon didn’t find any twisted bowels or an internal hernia, so that’s awesome. He did, however, find a few adhesions and cut them out. He’s pretty sure they were causing my pain but at this point, we just have to wait and see.

He said there was a “small area of concern” on my liver, so he took a biopsy. My mom had a crappy liver and actually died from liver failure and complications from metastatic cancer. I didn’t know bum livers could run in families, but apparently they can and do. I go back to see him in two weeks and he should have the results by then.

The sucktastic part of the recovery is that I can’t lift Maddie at all. They say not for TWO WEEKS. Yeah, whatev. I didn’t lift her yesterday or today since Gerald was home with us, but he’s going back to work tomorrow. I can change her diaper on the floor and let her sit in a regular kitchen chair for meals so I don’t have to lift her up into her highchair, but I’ve got to lift her to put her to bed. I’m not about to teach her how to climb in and out of her crib. Oh hellz no! So, there will be some lifting, but I promise to make it as minimal as possible.

All right, I’m starting to feel loopy and I’m having trouble remembering how to spell words so I’m going back to bed.

    Hey, glad the surgery is over and I hope things are better from here on! Let us know about the liver. And yeah, I don’t remember why but there was a time when I wasn’t supposed to pick up one of the kids when they were little and it just sucked big time.

    Get well soon. {{{{hugs}}}}

    Glad you’re home and on good meds. :)

    As for Maddie and her bed, try a step stool. I used one for my then 18 month old after a c/s (also several weeks of no heavy lifting) and he loved climbing up and down and into/out of bed. After I got the “all clear”, I took the step stool away. He was pretty mad for a while, but eventually forgot about it.

    (((hugs)))) I hope you heal quickly and that this is the last of surgeries for a long while. I also agree with Jana, maybe a step stool.

    I’ve been thinking about you! Enjoy your meds.

    Ugh. How nice for both of us that we are post-op together. That is such an interesting point about lifting Maddie. They also told me not to lift anything over 10 pounds for two weeks and it didn’t even occur to me how frustrating that would be if you had a kid. Chalk that up as another one in the “glad I’m had this surgery before I had a kid” column.

    Glad you’re doing OK!

    Aww, I sure hope you’re feeling better soon. And I hope they did find the source of the problem.

    You’ll be feeling better soon enough, I’m sure lifting Maddie carefully now and then will be OK. Just be really careful. You wouldn’t want to end up back IN the hospital again. ;)

    Feel better!

    Are’t pain meds the best? Unless they give you hallucinations, which mine did .. oh the memories.

    I third the step stool, better that than you hurt yourself more.

    Get better soon.
