Please tell me if I look like a jackass.
So I went shopping this morning while Maddie was at school. I had an Old Navy gift card from Christmas and it was burning a hole in my pocket.
Why am I telling you? Because, once again, I need your opinions. I went shopping by myself, so there was no voice of reason to tell me if I looked like a dweeb. I was so happy to fit into size XL clothes and to be able to choose from SO! MANY! THINGS! that I may have gone a little off the rails.
Please take a look at these photos and give it to me straight. The pics are blurry because I had to turn the flash off lest it blind me in the mirror. And as much as I love my Nikon, that thing is a bitch to take self-portraits. So just squint and pretend they’re crisp and in-focus, all right?
I need a remote and a good tripod. Also: fashion sense.

OK, I love the blue outfit but I’m not sure the shoes go with it or if they’re just over the top with all that blue. The green outfit is something that I would never wear personally, but it doesn’t look bad. It’s just loud with that sweater, which you have the personality to pull off, I think. I’m wondering about the fit of the green dress, though. It goes out where you do not, and I think you’d benefit from something a bit more tailored/nipped in to show off your nice shape. The green dress is so sticking to its own shape that it’s almost like an oversized men’s shirt, and you have a nicer body than what it shows.
You don’t look like a jackass, though. That much is definitely true.
I like them both and think you look fabulous in each. & I swear I’m not just saying that. I like the green outfit better than the blue, if I had to choose, but I think you look great in both.
I LOVE the green outfit. Super cute!!! I also love the blue dress AND the shoes. However, with the blue outfit, I’m not crazy about the sweater with the shoes. With the same dress and different shoes, it would look fab though.
I LOVE them both! Makes me want to go to Old Navy, pronto. Especially love those shoes.
I’m with Jess. I love the blue, and the green’s OK but I really don’t think the shape is right for you. Not wrong enough to look like a jackass, but not quite right.
THey are cute, but I wonder if you could go down a size in the green dress? The cut seems a little too wide at your waist. You need more definition there. Maybe a belt? That’s what my inner Clinton Kelly says…
Love the green one, but I think you need to try on a large sweetie.
Or the belt idea above.
Oooh! I love all the color! Yay! Don’t be shy!
The blue outfit is SO FLATTERING on you. I really like it. I’m not a giant fan of the green dress or the cardigan that goes over it, but I absolutely LOVE the blue and the fit. LOVE IT.
Me again. I just read the comments and THAT’s why I don’t like the green! It’s TOO BIG!
I’m SO glad you took a picture of the shoes. I love them both. Are those blue ones comfortable?
I love the blue outfit, both sweater and dress, both alone and together. So much that Old Navy is loading in the background as I’m typing this. I love the green a little bit less, but I do like the sweater paired with the green dress. I think it would look great with jeans and the green flats.
Ok, I hear you loud and clear on the green dress. No, I can’t get it in a smaller size. It actually JUST fits. I’m also made like it’s cut – small waist, BIG hips. Apparently, the dress emphasizes this and doesn’t flatter. I’ll take it back. However, I’m keeping the cardigan because I LOVE it. I got red and greem camis that match perfectly and look great with jeans.
A secret? The blue dress is maternity. There’s a tie that’s supposed to go in front, but I cinched it up in the back instead to create more of an empire waist. They have it in black, too, but my store was out of my size.
Mama Bub – Yes, the shoes are super comfy! Well, I haven’t walked a bunch in them, but they don’t pinch or rub funny at all. : )
I actually love both of the dresses, but apparently I am a freak!?
But I totally agree that you could have both in a smaller size. I understand that you like the cuts, but the green one needs something to cinch the waist if you are going to keep that size. I love the cardigans too. They add a great pop of color.
They are both adorable outfits and look great on you! Now I want to go to Old Navy!
I know I already commented, but I came back to see what other people thought and saw your comment and wanted to respond. I’m like you–small waist, big hips, which in my case makes me a pear shape because I have no boobs, and in your case makes you an hourglass. But that’s the problem with the dress–the way the a-line is cut to fit over your hips, it DOESN’T make your waist look as small as it is, so it robs you of your shape. That’s why a belt or something around the waist would be so helpful.
I completely agree that the green dress needed some kind of belt action. However, I’m still a big girl and well, big girls and belts aren’t really on friendly terms.
I took the green dress back and instead bought a different purple one with another matching cardi. You’re going to love it, Jess!
I LOVE how you look in that blue outfit! Can’t wait to see the purple one.
I love them both and they look great on you. But yes, you could also get away with more tailoring, too. But both outfits honestly look fabulous and you must be so excited!!!
I like them both and I would definitly wear both outfits. Looking good!
Okay, it’s like this – the shape of the dresses along the sides and bottom works really well. It’s the right length, and the skirt is a-line, which is flattering and not frumpy, and the sleeve length is great. But there’s something about the round neckline that I don’t like, and something about the gathering around the neckline (at least on the green dress, hard to see on the blue) that…well, it reminds me of my grandma’s old house dresses. It’s true. I’m sorry. You don’t look like a grandma in those though. What would be really great? If you could find those dresses with a different neckline and just a tad more fitted chestal area. I know made up that word, “chestal”.
I love everything but that green shirt dress. I LOVE everything else, though. So, go you!
I thought they looked good, altho I agreed that the green dress was looking too big. I am glad you took it back, now I need to see the purple one.
Love all but the green. Not that the color is bad, it is that the others look more flattering on you. Love the cardies!
