An interesting evening

December 16th, 2008

Last night, about 7:30 I was in the bedroom soaking my toes and I heard a loud clap of thunder. It was sleeting here, so it didn’t seem that odd. Gerald came bustling into the bedroom and asked if I heard that. I replied that I thought it was thunder. Apparently, it was MUCH louder at the front of the house and he assured me that it wasn’t thunder. His guess was that someone took out the fence.

We’re the first house in our neighborhood and one side of our property is fenced with a “decorative” brick fence. The intersection of our street and the larger road we live off of is a prime accident location. We’ve been waiting for five years for someone to hit the brick fence. Last night, it was in the 20s and sleeting and well… this happened.

Luckily, neither the driver nor his wife were hurt at all. Gerald went outside and offered help and then for the next couple of hours our house was Accident Central. We hosted the accident victim, a very nice man named Cecil, the police officer who came over twice and the wrecker. This morning, we got to visit with the president of our HOA. All in all, it was very exciting. For Gerald and I, at any rate. Maddie? She slept through the entire thing.

Jesus, that’s scary! I’m glad everyone was OK! And that they had such nice people (you!) to help them out.

Tell the HOA you want a THICKER brick wall put up. :)

I cannot believe that they took out the wall like that and were okay. I am glad Maddie slept through it all though.

Holy shit! Thank the gods Maddie slept through it all, even though it was so close to her room. Will the HOA repair the wall?

Thank god that it didn’t get any closer. And isn’t it amazing what they’ll sleep through? And yet the phone ringing will wake up my daughter…

It always happens when you think it will be a nice quiet evening, doesn’t it. Glad everyone is OK.

Oh, man! I am so glad no one was hurt. How nice of you to host all these folks. It made their very bad night a bid better, I am sure.

I’m SO GLAD no one was hurt! And trust a toddler to sleep through it all but wake up at 4:30am when nothing is going on, lol.

wow! I’m glad no one was hurt and it was only the wall that got damaged. I agree with another poster. Tell them you want an impenetrable fortress!!!

My kids will sleep through anything, yet wake up if they hear me open a food wrapper :)
