Red and Blue make Purple
So tomorrow’s the big day, huh? I, for one, am ready for it to be over with already. I don’t know if my perception is skewed, but it seems to me that this election period has been highly-charged and well, kinda mean.
I don’t remember past elections being so spiteful. Wait, let me clarify… I don’t remember voters in past elections being so spiteful. It seems no matter who you support, you can look forward to belittling and malevolence. Instead of uniting as citizens in the same great country, we’re reduced to belittling each other for opposing viewpoints, vandalizing property and making sweeping generalizations about people on the other side of the fence.
I’m not big into politics. My husband is, though. He’s one of the most knowledgeable people on the subject that I’ve ever known. And you know what? We’ve never once voted for the same person for President. He thinks I’m silly for my opinions on the matter and undoubtedly thinks I’m throwing away my vote, but he’s never mean-spirited about it. He respects my fundamental right to choose the person I think will do the best job for us, even if that person isn’t his choice.
I suppose it’s naive of me to expect the rest of the country to be the same, but I can always hope. And I can do my part: No matter who you vote for tomorrow, I will respect you for taking part in the electoral process instead of sitting at home, taking the right to vote for granted. And I really do hope the best man wins. Whomever that turns out to be.
