OH NOES! HALP!
September 26th, 2008
I just spilled a bottle of bright pink nail polish all over the pale grey carpet in my bedroom. We’re not talking a small puddle of polish either here, folks. The bottle fell, bounced and rolled. It’s about four feet of pink lines and swirls.
I’ve tried alcohol, turpentine, peroxide, windex, goo gone, oxy clean and hairspray and I’ve got nothing to show for it except an awesome contact high. (I read on the internets that acetone will eat through or remove the color from carpet, so I didn’t try nail polish remover.)
Has anyone else ever done this? What can I do besides pray to the gods of Resolve or replace my carpet?

This just happened to me! My carpet is beige and it was a VERY purple polish. I used a combination of hairspray, nail polish remover (just a tad) and water. It took some elbow grease but I got rid of it all.
First time at replying, by the way. I love your blog!
Shaving cream! Dark blue nail polish on cream colored carpet and it all came out. Gillette shave gel worked fine for me. Good luck!
I would try a little nail polish remover in an inconspicuous area (maybe the corner of a closet?). I used it all the time as a teenager in my mom’s house and never had a problem with it.
I would definately test first, just in case!
well???????????????????????????
post photos of area damage and hives.
pleeease.
My sister, the cosmetoglogist, says you can use acetone just be sure to rinse with plenty of water and test on a hidden spot first to be sure it won’t completely discolor your carpet.
I hope something works.
Turn it into your homeowner’s insurance. It is an accident and typically covered. I spilled some paint one time and they replaced our carpet.
jana – srsly???????
Did you try acetone-free nail polish?
er.. acetone-free nail polish *remover*
