And so it begins

I walked today. 45 minutes. It was 9809687506734 degrees outside. The baby was pissy. But we effing did it.

I swear, those bitches better not leave me hanging on this half-marathon shit. We are going to walk the HELL out of that thing. You hear me Ks??

Anyhow. During this walk, I got a blister on my pinkie toe. It hurts like crazy. I’m going to need to get new shoes sooner rather than later. In the past, I have always picked out tennis shoes based solely on looks. Right now, I’m rocking a pair of Nike Trail Runners in a sassy combo of grey, pink and indigo. They are fiercely cute, but not made for walking long distances. They just opened a Lady Footlocker in the next town over, so I think I’m going to check it out one evening this week.

I’m officially “on hold” waiting to hear back on my surgery. I’ve had a psych eval, done six months of medically supervised weight loss, and provided five years’ worth of medical records. Now, the surgeon’s office will submit the request to my insurance company and in a month or so, I’ll know their verdict.

I’m absolutely terrified that it’s going to be denied.

  1. I’m impressed. If you can muster the energy to walking outside in the Texas heat, I think you are going to do just fine.

  2. Good for you! I’m meeting my mom for dinner tonight & I was thinking about walking home afterward - now I will for sure. It should take me around the same amount of time you spent walking today, so it’ll be like we’re walking buddies! Want to get matching shirts?

  3. I’m so proud of you! Cranky baby and all! I would have totally used that as a reason not to walk!

Keep it up. You can do it!

    HUGS!

  4. i’m really frakin’ proud of you and your pinky toe.

    as for the surgery….
as laine says…i’m crossin’ everything but my legs.

  5. What time of day did you walk? GAH!

On the blisters: I would be sure, when you get your new shoes, to get them a size bigger than you normally wear. Also, try the non-cotton, “coolmax” kind of socks. Those don’t chafe as much. And if gets really bad, you can always use vaseline or bodyglide between the toes.

    Yay! Way to go!

  6. Oops, I meant to say a HALF size bigger, not a whole size.

  7. Sounds like everything is in place, surgery check-the-box wise! I’m sure things will come out just fine.

Good for you on the half marathon! Yea! I believe you get a good pile of Bad Ass points for completing one.

  8. Becky - Well? Did you do it?

Tessie - At 12:45. WTF was I thinking? I think I’m going to move walking time to right after breakfast.

  9. I did! I had to split it into 2 shorter walks because we had an emmer effer of a storm, but I did walk last night for a total of 45 minutes! I thought about just powering through the rain walking home from the restaurant, but I was still wearing work clothes & didn’t want to get stuck on the big bridge in a pair of wet khakis as the worst of it came down. So I got a ride home & changed, then walked in the rain in clothes I didn’t care so much about.

Don’t know what the weather’s going to do tonight, but I do plan to walk again. The temperature has dropped about 15 degrees since yesterday so it should be much nicer even if it is wet.

  10. Woot for the walking!! That is awesome, especially in the freakin’ heat.

I wore my pedometer today and told myself to get up off my arse at least once per hour and walk a lap or two outside. You, my dear, just provided the inspiration that means I will do it.

I really can’t imagine that you will get turned down. You’ve played by all the rules, and now with all the training for the half marathon, you are going above and beyond taking care of yourself. Have faith!

  11. I’m totally with Tessie about the Coolmax socks. I’ve got effed up feet from dancing and one completely effed foot totally slides around in my shoe. The coolmax socks keep me from getting blisters. Also, make sure you go to a decent person who can assess which shoes are best for your feet (i don’t know if I would trust LFL, usually the running store people are trained in some basic gait analysis to figure out if you need extra padding or extra stability etc.). The right shoes can make all the difference.

  12. trainer?

Yanno…for proper shoe style and a walking plan so, um…you don’t get blisters and such?

    *ahem*

    *looks around*

OKAY OKAY SO I’M A NAGGY BITCH!

    /runs

    ;-P

  13. Good job on the walking. Are you continuing it? I really need to get off my tush and do something too. You’re much better than me. I don’t like getting out in this heat more than necessary.

I pray that your insurance OK’s the surgery.
