Five months down, one more to go
I had my fifth visit with my doctor on Monday. That means I only have one month to go before I can be approved for the bypass. I asked the insurance coordinator how long that process takes and she says it’s typically a month. That means I could realistically be having the surgery right around the 4th of July.
Wow.
I get a lot of “are you excited?” type questions. The answer is “yes, but…” I’m excited about having the surgery and not the least bit nervous yet. However, I am terrified that our insurance company won’t approve it. I’ll have done six months worth of work and spent over $500 on their requirements only to have them tell me “no.” I’m also scared about that “no” because then what will I do? I really do consider this my last best hope.
So, I’m trying not to get too excited. I’m hoping it will be less devastating that way if I get the big N-O. But secretly, just between you and me? I’m so excited I can’t stand it. I’m going to be thin! And active! And cute! And be able to buy clothes WHERE EVER I WANT TO! And Maddie won’t ever remember that I was fat. I’m so very excited… but let’s keep that just between us, k?

A) and also 1) YOU ARE TOTALLY CUTE NOW
I RARELY hear about people being denied insurance coverage for the surgery nowdays! I think insurance companies are starting to get with it.
I am so excited for you too! Ask if they’ll let me watch!
I am in the same shoes you are. I have a couple more appointments to go and hopefully will be having surgery at the beginning of August. I am excited, yet nervous about insurance approval and feeling like it will never get here! I dream about losing the weight and the surgery. Good luck and Im sure you will be approved. Cant wait to read all about your journey!
I’m excited for you! I can’t wait to hear about it. I wish Dan would look into it but he refuses. His doctor brings it up to him every time he goes in.
Good luck!
Well - I think you should be proud and just as excited about all the HARD WORK you have ALREADY DONE. You are already cute and more and more active and Maddie adores you, as only a toddler can.
I am sure the insurance company will sigh off. In the meantime, though, revel in what has already been your own kickassery!
I was wondering how that would work for you. I’ll be praying that the insurance company covers it for you! I can’t imagine affording it otherwise.
I’m excited with you as well. And I think you’re TOTALLY CUTE now, but I understand what you’re saying. I can’t wait to hear about more of this journey of yours. I’ve come so far and done so well already.
Good luck! One more month isn’t much at all!!!
Best of luck on this! I had laproscopic RNY gastric bypass nearly 4 years ago and it has been a blessing! I only wish I had done it years sooner!
First of all, I think you are adorable as is. Second of all, good luck! My fingers are crossed.
Oh, it’s getting close! I’m sure it’s going to happen for you. You’ve put in so much work towards this goal. Good luck!
I’m so glad you’re blogging about this. It’s such an interesting topic.
First of all, I gotta agree with everyone who has already said how cute you look NOW. I understand that perhaps you don’t feel the cuteness we see, but at least know that we see it.
Will the surgery in any way hinder your care of Maddie? I mean, will you not be able to lift her for a period of time or anything like that? Because that’d suck to have to look into pathetically sad eyes as they ask you to pick them up to be carried to bed or something.
I’m sure everything will be approved. If your doctors are behind you, they’ll know how to submit everything to insurance to get it OKed. I can’t wait to hear about it - but if Tessie watches, don’t post, like, in-surgery pictures, ok? Before & After, good. During, bad.
Happy Anniversary!!!
Got my fingers crossed. Prayers are going up like bottle rockets on the 4th of July.
You are beautiful all the time, baby. All the time.
Wow!! You’re getting there!! Hang in there! You’ll be thin before you know it. I remember the waiting felt like it would go on forever and ever but like a few others here it’s here and gone for me and it’s been the greatest blessing of my life. I had open RNY last August. This time last year I bought some clothes for summer… 24’s and 3X’s. This year? I am in a stinkin’ size 8! That will be you next year!! I can’t wait to watch your progress.
Hugs~
Eva
Thank you guys for the support and enthusiasm. It really helps me combat the shame I feel that’s wrapped up in this whole procedure.
Shelly - I believe I’m not supposed to lift more than 20 pounds for two weeks after the surgery. Maddie only weighs 21 pounds now, so I don’t imagine it’s going to be a huge problem. Gerald will be home with me during the worst of it, so I think we’ll manage.
Rebecca and Rob - Welcome and thanks for commenting : )
Eva - SIZE 8??? I cannot even imagine! I haven’t been in a single digit size since I was in middle school.
Erica, I know. I couldn’t imagine it either. I entered high school in a 16 and left in an 18. From there it just got worse. I did get down to a 14 in my adult life twice…. for about 5 minutes. Sigh. I do know your frustration, but please, no shame!!!! If you’d like to see my before and after pics, email me and I’ll send them to you. I remember the night before my surgery last summer. I stayed up half the night looking at the before and after pictures on bariatriceating.com It still amazes me to see people before and after!!
