Inner Self
My secret inner self is Kat Von D. All tattooed up and doing my own thing. Sometimes I get the urge to embrace this inner self and say “fuck it” to convention. Bring on the tattoo needles and dirty looks from The UpTights!!!! Then, reality sets back in and I’m ok being my outer self for a little while…. until I see someone who has made their secret inner self their outer self.
Who’s your secret inner self? Would you look or act any different if work/family/society didn’t have say?

I don’t know if I would LOOK any different, but I would probably say more things out loud.
It’s hard to pick someone! Maybe Tina Fey?
Hmm, besides for being skinny and beautiful, I wouldn’t change anything.
Someone who has infinite patience for errant toddlers, feeds her kid organic, nutritionally sound meals all day every day, shaves her legs daily, sexes the husband up without being requested, super confident with no doubt as to her parenting abilities, great ass and legs, and makes friends easily.
What? A girl can dream.
Hmmm…
I used to let more of my Inner Self out. I used to say what I thought. I used to get into political debates with near strangers. I keep my mouth shut a lot more now. I don’t want to burn bridges. But I miss when my Inner Self reigned. It was more fun, more passionate.
Wow - a face for my inner self. It’s really hard to say, but I’m totally with you. I want tatoos and more piercings and a really loud voice to say “FUCK YOU CONVENTIONAL IDEALS!” Really, we are the same person, you and I. That’s a scary deal. Wanna come up and we can go get inked in The Loop??? Mine tat’s already picked out…
OH - and let’s just issue a collective battle cry of “Renegade Moms Unite!”
Fana made a good point to me in the midst of my post-pregnancy identity crisis: YOU DON’T HAVE TO CHOOSE! You can be the punk and still be the mom. You just do it your own way. I mean, it’s not about recklessness or anything; it’s about the expression of who you really are, who you aspire to be. I’m all for turning it inside out, and have begun to do so. NEVER BEEN HAPPIER WITH ME!
Wow. Let’s just write a manifesto, shall we?
For me, it’s not about other people’s reactions but about CHANGEABILITY. If it were easy and mess-free, I’d change my wall color, hair color, dishes, tattoos, etc., DAILY. But it isn’t, and so I can’t decide on Just One, and so I end up with cream-colored walls and light brown hair.
We have the same inner self??
We have the SAME inner self!
*sigh*
I knew I liked you.
