Portrait of a toddler

Upon the advice of Shelly Overlook, we took Maddie to Portrait Innovations today for her one year pictures. I’ve been nervous about it all week because of the LEVEL RED MELTDOWN that occurred when I tried to get Christmas pictures taken. The only other time I’ve taken her for pictures was when she was seven months old. Both of these trips were to JCP portrait studios, and at the time, I thought the reason we didn’t get very good pictures was because of Maddie’s separation anxiety. I was wrong.

This morning, Maddie decided to only take an hour nap, instead of her normal two to two and a half hour nap. This did not bode well, so I had pretty much written the portrait session off due to crabbiness. I needn’t have worried. The girl who took Maddie’s pictures didn’t get flustered when Maddie started getting upset. And there was no rushing us because the next people were there. We kept our cool and another girl came in and played with Maddie while the first girl took pictures. Maddie laughed and smiled and never got too upset. There was anxiety and a few tears, but no full-on meltdown.

All in all, she took 35 pictures and they’re all great. We spent $135 on pictures and they gave us a ton of free ones and a CD with ALL the poses on it. I can Photoshop it ’til my heart’s content! And they’re not copyrighted, so we can print whatever we need… not that we need anymore with the eleventy billion that we bought.

I was going to show some to you, but I’m going to wait until next weekend. We’re going to be seeing Gerald’s family and giving them pictures. A few of them read here and I don’t want them to see the pictures beforehand. I want them to be surprised by how great they are.

Ok, ok… here’s ONE:

Bottom line: Give Portrait Innovations a try next time you want pictures taken. They aren’t expensive and they do great work. (At least the one closest to me does.)

  1. If you don’t mind me asking how many portrait sheets did you get for the price? I’ve been wanting to take my little one to get pictures but don’t want to spend a fortune.

  2. Doh! They are not in California yet. I’ll have to keep an eye out for them in the future.

  3. Cute! We love portrait innovations too.

  4. MB - We got the $9.95 special that’s advertised on their website, PLUS 23 more sheets. 2 of those were free specialty 10 x 13s (a double portrait and a 3 picture collage) and then we got 6 free cards. You can chose from lots of holidays/events for the cards. And, they give you the CD of all the photos so you can print more if you want to. We probably didn’t need as many as we got, but the price was great. It was $115 for the 21 sheets, $9.95 for the package, and the rest was tax.

  5. Rats, there isn’t one near me. But we have a really awesome J.C. Penney studio anyway.

  6. So cute! We’ve done Picture People out here in LA and I was surprised by how great they turned out. But they don’t give you a cd and allow you to print them yourself (LAME).

Too bad Portrait Innovations isn’t out here yet.

    Can’t wait to see more!

  7. We don’t have one around here, but I’m wishing we did. I love the little sneak peek and can’t wait to see the rest of the photos. I need to get Zachariah in for new photos ASAP. The last ones were his 1 year set (he’ll be 2 very soon…I know, bad mom).

  8. what a cute pic! I really like that dress on her. I haven’t taken my kids, ever, but maybe now that there’s THREE of them I should, because chances of me getting a decent photo of that is nil…

  9. We just discovered a great place called clix portrait studios that is very much like PI. We just moved to CA from the east coast where there were tons of portrait innovations.

I took my kids to the Ventura Clix location and it was fantastic. We spent about $150 and got a 16×20
