Candy is Dandy but Fruit Helps You Poop
So this morning, Maddie woke up at 6:15! The sun wasn’t even up yet! WTF? Maybe it’s just going to take some time for her little internal clock to reset without the sunlight. Maybe? Maybe I’m deluding myself. Maybe she’s just going to get up that early for the REST OF HER LIFE! Or, until she’s a lazy teenager and I’m dragging her ass out of bed at the crack of noon.
Halloween is fast approaching and I have a quandary. This will be my baby’s first Halloween and I want to get her an adorable little baby Halloween costume to wear and take approximately 49853423 photos of her in it. However, she doesn’t need a costume for anything. We don’t have any Halloween parties to go to and I’m certainly not taking her trick or treating. Can you see that? A fatty taking her obviously too-young-for-candy kid out trick or treating? I don’t even want to imagine what people would say behind closed doors.
So, really, I need an excuse a reason to dress up Maddie. Quick! Help me think of one! Maybe we can give out candy and she can be my little dressed up helper?

FOr Little Diva’s first Halloween, I did dress her up and she handed out candy with me to all the neighbor kids. Everyone got to see her all dressed up and I didn’t have to leave the house! I’ve also known newer moms who take the little ones treating but collect change for the March of Dimes instead. Just an idea. Good luck!!!
I love the idea of her being your helper. Sounds like the perfect solution! Or along the lines of Mom of the Year’s March of Dimes idea, you can trick or treat for UNICEF. I think they’ll even send you an official Halloween collection box.
For our daughter’s first Halloween, we dressed her as a pumpkin and took her to the local pumpkin patch for pictures. Those are definitely some of the cutest pictures we have of her as an infant. And it gave me an excuse to buy a costume!
Oh, please, I’ll give you one: WONDER BREAD COSTUME. AD spent about 30 minutes in hers last year (enough for pictures) and it was still AWESOME and TOTALLY WORTH IT.
Oh yes, find some reason to dress her up. Please! Zachariah was 7 (almost
months last year for Halloween. My mom found these little mouse ears that one of us had worn as a baby on Halloween. They were perfect. So I painted a little nose and whiskers on his face. He was adorable, and I have some awesome pictures. We’re not trick-or-treating yet this year, but we’ll still dress up. I already have a costume for him. It’s just so fun!
You don’t need an excuse! I did it to my girl too… I went to my mother’s house and called it an excuse. Then again I only spent $6.95.
Yes! Your door helper. People will love to see her while you hand out candy, and it’s a perfect “excuse” for a costume.
I think “for the photo op” is enough reason. What I’d do is dress her up, then take one of those “7.99 portrait package” coupons to JCPenney and get her picture taken. That’s worth an outfit. The Children’s Place has their costumes at 30% off now.
I think you live close to me, not sure? Anywho we’re taking our boys to the Owens Farm in Richardson. They’re having hay rides and they have a huge pumpkin patch you can take pictures in there, and it makes for a great setting for a picture you wouldn’t have to pay $100 for at the studio.
Just a thought, check it out! It’s off of Plano Road in Richardson, right there at the corner of Greenville and Plano (take Greenville north from work and bam you’re there!).
