Bandits
Thank you all for the great music recommendations so far. I’ve been very busy with the downloading and iPod uploading. Please, keep the ideas coming!
In the spirit of fairness, let me in turn recommend Amy Winehouse. I’m pretty late to drink the Kool Aid on this one, but she’s FANTASTIC. I listened to her album (album???) several times in a row on the way to Austin this weekend. Definitely worth the price of admission, folks.
Speaking of this weekend, Maddie and I had a great time shopping with The Ladies (Gerald’s grandmother, mother and aunt). We met at the outlet mall and had lunch. Then we shopped for hours. It was super fun and Maddie was a champ. She had a ball and entertained us.
My big splurge was a gen-u-wine Coach purse and matching wallet. Grand total: eleventeen billion dollars, but worth every penny. I’ve wanted a nice, classic Coach purse since, I don’t know, forever? I experienced a wee bit of buyer’s remorse as I handed over the money, but it didn’t last. I love my new purse and will carry it until it falls apart.
Maddie, of course, made out like a bandit. There were 50% off sales at The Children’s Place and Carter’s. I’ve never been to The Children’s Place before, but Swistle always gets the cutest things there for her daughter, so I thought I’d check it out. Totally worth it. Maddie got the cutest little capris and two matching polo shirts. She also got a little skirt and tank top that we’re calling her “hoochie outfit.” It’s adorable… and yes, pictures will be forthcoming. She also got lots of sunsuits at Carter’s. The Ladies got her a couple of bibs, a dress and an adorable sunsuit with ruffles on the butt. She’s well outfitted for the next four or five months.
I tell ya, the trouble with having a girl? The clothes. You just want to buy and buy since they’re all so damned cute. Bastard clothing companies know this and take advantage. Ruffles on the butt…. Sheesh.

I can’t wait to see photos of her in her new things! I know, how are we supposed to resist ruffles on the butt? I also can’t resist maryjane-style shoes. Or socks with lace. Or, um, anything, really.
We love the outlet malls near Austin, too. We stop by there every time we’re near the area (once a year or so). Can’t wait to see pics of Miss Maddie all dressed up in her fine threads.
As for music for your trip, after many long drives to New Orleans, I would highly recommend Collective Soul, Better than Ezra, Lyle Lovett and Live for lots of “get up and go” music. We put on Alison Kraus or Corinne Bailey Ray in hopes that our daughter will sleep (ha!). Our new favorite band is BuzzUniverse (you can find them on iTunes), but I can’t really categorize them as far as car trips go.
Hope you have fun on your trip!
Well you better take pictures of the ruffly tooshy for me! I can’t wait to see her cute outfits! Maddie is just the cutest baby girl in the whole world, you’d better keep her ruffly hiney away from my boys though….
Have another music suggestion for ya! It’s a REALLY old song, my grandparent’s song, so it means a lot. “You Made Me Love You” by Al Jolson. Our boys love it and I sing it to them before night-beddy time.
Hopefully your wee one will like it to, it is so soothing and they fall right to sleep with smiles.
