Gerald, Maddie and I are taking a rather long road…

Gerald, Maddie and I are taking a rather long road trip next weekend. I’d like to stuff my iPod to the gills with killer tunes to help fill the 18 mind-numbing hours we have to drive.

(Yes, I said 18 hours. That’s each way, folks. With a four month old. No, we’re not retarded. There’s a really good reason, I promise. But, it’s a secret, so I can’t tell you until after we get back.)

So, help a sister out. What are you listening to that you can’t get enough of?

  1. I’ve been listening to “White & Nerdy” by Weird Al Yankovic, “What Hurts the Most” by Rascal Flatts, “Dragostea Din Tei” by O-ZONE, and…um…”MMMBop” by Hanson. Ahem.

  2. I’m with Swistle on Weird Al… but I’m sure you could have guessed that. The whole Straight Outta Lynwood album is great. Also, Fountains of Wayne has a new album out that I really like. Do you like Modest Mouse? If so, check out a group called Bound Stems. I’ve only heard a song or two but they sound cool. Lilly Allen’s also pretty awesome.

Enjoy the drive! It shouldn’t be bad, especially since you’ll have company.

  3. I heard an old REM album at the coffee shop last weekend and now I want to drag out all my REM albums and listen again.

Is Maddie listening to music yet? Gilbert and Sullivan “Pirates of Penzance” and “The HMS Pinafore” are fun for the whole family. Then by the time she’s 4 she’ll be able to sing the whole “I am the very model of a modern major general” etc. and wow the hell out of her preschool teachers, lol!

Actually little kids, even babies, really love musicals and anything “operatic”, so if you have any you like, drag ‘em out.

    Back to you…

Here’s some of what I’ve been listening to lately:

    Chris Smither
    Madeline Peyroux
    D’Gary
    Creedence Clearwater
    The Shins
    Rufus Wainwright
    Gipsy Kings
    Martin Sexton
    Stone Temple Pilots
    Otis Redding
    John Butler Trio
    Johnny Cash
    Jack Johnson
    David Gray
    Santana
    Ray LaMontagne
    K. T. Tunstall
    Nick Drake
    Cesaria Evora
    and…
    They Might Be Giants

Hopefully that gave you a few ideas! Enjoy your trip! :)

  4. OOO! And Ray Charles; it’s always good to have some Ray to put on. :)

  5. Are there enough hours in a weekend for you to do this? I can’t wait to hear the reason for this trip!
