Nip it in the butt
Maddie’s diaper rash fooled me. It looked like it was clearing up, and then, WHAM! Open sores. To say that I felt like the worst mother in the history of motherhood was an understatement.
So, this morning at 8:30 we trudged back to the pediatrician’s office. I’m pretty sure they think I have Munchausen’s by Proxy at this point, but what’s a mom to do? Open sores + poop = infection = very bad for Maddie. The dr recommended switching to a soy formula temporarily to help with the diahrrea. I wouldn’t have thought of that on my own. She also prescribed a cream called “Happy Hiney” that they make over at the compounding pharmacy in town. Luckily, it was only $20 without insurance. Usually those compounds are a BAJILLION dollars for whatever you’re getting. And, we’re continuing on with the antibiotic and anti fungal creams, too.
The good part of the appointment was that Maddie’s ears are totally clear. This is good, because we treated her last ear infection homeopathically. We’re giving her allergy medicine, but no antibiotics. She gets saline in her nose twice a day and it looks like it’s working. HALLE-FREAKIN’-LUJAH! I’m so glad that her dr took the time to talk to an ENT to learn this trick that they use for frequent sinus or ear infections in older kids. It seems as though we really got a good doc.
On the “bummer” side of things, Maddie and I had to cancel our road trip to see the women in Gerald’s family this weekend. His mom, aunt and grandmother were going to meet us in San Marcos for a couple of days of shopping, but we had to reschedule for next weekend. All sorts of little things kept popping up that pointed to us needing to reschedule. I’m disappointed, but at least we only have to wait a week.
Only two days left until my birthday. The big 3-1. I’m way more excited about Mother’s Day : )
I’m going to try and sit down and figure out how to edit a little clip of Maddie so I can post it for you. I’m going to have to read the instruction manual that goes with the camera and it’s not easy to follow. What I’m saying here is, don’t hold your breath for it to be soon.

Poor Maddie! I sure hope she feels better soon.
Hope you have a fabulous first Mother’s Day and birthday (it’s my daughter’s b-day, too). And IMO, 31 isn’t that bad; 30 was much worse for me.
Diaper rashes drive me up the wall. I had no idea they would be such a recurring problem. Between that and the new baby coming, I am really, really aiming to start potty training next month! I am holding out hope that she feels ready, because she now equates diaper changes with torture! So surely she wants out of diapers as badly as I want her out, right?
Erica dear girl, I hope that Maddie gets better soon.
Enjoy your first Mothers Day and your 31st birthday, my next birthday I’ll be 72, count your blessings baby girl. *G*
Warm hugs,
Paul.
Glad Maddie is on the road to recovery. Can’t wait for the clip!
Huggs
Theresa
Happy BD if I forget! 31 is a BABY! *grins*
And Happy Mother’s Day too! I remember how you were so worried you wouldn’t get pregnant and now look! YAY!
I know I’m a nag but…did you try the cloth diapers? Honestly, it was like magic; their rash would be better within HOURS, with the cream meds stuff too, of course). The cotton lets her little bum skin breathe. You don’t have to always use cloth of course! I didn’t. But cloth are great for rashes! (Okay, I’ll shut up and mind my own business now.)

;-P
Jana - Happy Birthday to your daughter! Yeah, 31 isn’t so bad. I mean, I’m already in my 30s, at least I’m still in my early 30s!
DH - Is four months old enough for potty training? Because I’m totally on board with that.
Paul - I count them every single day! You know what? You’re one of them : )
Theresa - You’re not holding your breath, are you?
Amber - I remember being so worried, too! Now, I’m worried about a whole new set of things : )
No, I didn’t try the cloth diapers. I ended up not needing to. The Happy Hiney compound worked like MAGIC! After the first application, there was a noticeable difference. Today, she’s just a little pink. I think it will be cleared up entirely by Monday.
And, you are not a nag. You’re very helpful and I appreciate all your advice. So there. : )~
