Please welcome:

On January 17th, 2007 at 3:38pm CST God gifted us Maddie. 7 pounds 5 ounces, 19.5 inches.

Baby is doing well. “Grunting” a little so is being watched a bit more closely than normal, but is not surprising under these circumstances. She’s just making the transition to the outside world and she is improving. She’s still in the admission nursery, but not in the special care nursery, or the NICU, so there’s not much to worry about. I’m at home now (animals, etc to take care of), but hopefully right about now Erica will be holding our baby for the first time.

Mom is doing fine as well. I don’t think she’s an advocate of C-Sections any longer, and is a little less interested in having another child today than she was yesterday ; ) With the grunting thing, she hasn’t been able to hold or nurse the baby yet, so she’s been a little anxious, but like I said, that should be over any minute now. I would give damned near anything to be there when she gets her for the first time (I had her for 5 minutes or so in the O.R.)

Dad is doing great. Very in love and proud of both of his girls, shell-shocked, and a little exhausted I think (all that, AND driving on dangerous roads 45-60 minutes each way), so I’ll leave you guys with a picture, and a sincere thank you for all the great wishes and helping keep Erica sane these last few months. Thank you.

Update: Erica got the baby about 1 this morning (an hour after I posted). Pediatrician gave her a perfectly clean bill of health this morning.

Gerald

Best pic I have at the moment. Obviously just a few minutes old here, still in O.R. getting weighed for the first time.

P.S. Erica will be back with you guys as soon as possible. I will try to check in now and again and respond to any questions or comments.

  3. Erica and Gerald, congratulations on the birth of Maddie.
This is great news, many blessings on this child, may she grow up to be healthy, happy and develop her full potential as a human being.
Warm hugs to the three of you,
    Paul.

  4. Oh, I am just so so so sooooo happy for you both! Big congrats!! Please give Erica my love too when you see her and a nice warm hug. Good job Mom! :)

  5. What a beautiful baby! And I’m so relieved and happy everything went so well. Erica, I was in labor 56 hours with my Lucy, my first one. Yeah, C-section isn’t a piece of cake, but 56 hours…I was so exhausted I can’t even explain it. And very very sore “down there”, too…so…I know you’re tired and sore but regular delivery may not have been any better, yanno? {{{{{Hugs}}}} Rest, enjoy, love your girl and your man. :)

HI MADDIE!! (Thank you Gerald for the info, very nice of you!)

  6. How exciting!! I am so happy for you two, I wished I could have seen you Erica when you were preggers, little gorgeous Maddie came into the world the same day I came back to work-what a busy day! If you need any advice or tips on recovering from your C-section, or baby advice let me know. I’m here for ya girl (except for baby-sitting, so sorry!)! God has truly blessed you both, take care of her with all your hearts.

  7. What a beautiful baby!!!!

  9. Oh what a great day. What a beautiful PINK baby! I can’t believe what a perfect size she turned out to be!

Both those girls are so lucky to have you Gerald. Thanks for letting us know!

  10. Look at her!

    All of her fingers
    Ten little toes
    A bright yellow anklet
    And an adorable nose.

Erica and Gerald, she’s gorgeous and perfect! I can hardly wait to see more pictures, but none will compare to this marvelous first one. I loved that you caught the weight on the gram scale play the lottery? Looks like a winner!

Welcome Maddie, we’ve all been waiting to meet you!

    **Big Hugs**
