Tomorrow!

Maddie’s official debut will be tomorrow at 2:30pm.

I’m gonna be a mom tomorrow.

Holy. Shit.

I keep thinking that I should be studying or something. Like there should be a handbook. Why is there not a handbook? Who’s bright idea was it to issue babies without handbooks?

Arctic Winter 2007 is wrecking havoc with our plans. Gerald’s family lives south of us and they are currently trapped in their towns by ice. This means that the birth of the first, and maybe only, grandchild will not be attended by Gerald’s parents. Gerald’s mom is heartbroken and I feel so guilty. Like I caused the storm with my voodoo pregnancy. I wish they could be here. The weather’s supposed to clear up a little and the temperature will be in the 40s on Thursday. Hopefully, they’ll be able to make it up here then.

My bag is packed. Maddie’s bag is packed. The car seat is installed. The house is clean. The guest bed sheets are in the dryer. I think that’s everything. If only there were some sort of, I don’t know, handbook to tell me if I’m forgetting anything.

We’re going to buy a new toilet seat this afternoon. The one in the guest bathroom mysteriously cracked and when you sit on it, it pinches your ass. Not cool at all to offer your guests. “The bathroom? Down the hall and first door on the left. Mind the seat…. it pinches.” So, we’re going to go to Home Depot and then out to dinner. We figure it’s our last chance to go out without a highchair or a babysitter.

I’m serious about this handbook business, people.

Gerald will log in sometime soon to let you know the vital statistics. Otherwise, plan on it being quite sometime before I’m back. On the bright side, I’m sure I’ll have loads of new stories for you. Probably involving bodily fluids of some sort. You may want to prepare yourself.

  2. WHOOO HOOOOOO!!!

A baby is coming, a baby is coming, did anyone boil some water??

About the handbook thing, when my babies were babies, they never seem to follow along with what the books all said. My very wise mother said, “well, the baby didn’t read the book so how are they suppose to know when they are suppose to do things?”

That pretty much sums up parenthood…welcome to the club!

    HUGS!
