Fatty Maddie
We had our 34 week OB appointment today. Things are still in a holding pattern. No dilation and one more week of taking the terbutaline. After that, all bets are off. I also officially decided against having my tubes tied today. Not because we want more children; we don’t. Instead, I’m going to get a five-year IUD that virtually stops menstruation. What’s not to love about that? No pregnancies and no periods? Sign me right the hell up, please. Hm. I’m pretty sure we just crossed the line into Uncomfortable Territory for some of you. I’ll get back to the mundane stuff now.
I have to monitor my blood sugar three times a day for the next week. Based on those results, the dr will decide if I need insulin for the remaining three weeks of my pregnancy. Meanwhile, our insurance company doesn’t cover jack squat when it comes to diabetic testing supplies. We spent $50 for the machine, lancets and a week’s worth of testing strips. Those strips are the big expense. $23 for 25 strips. I feel so sorry for the diabetic folks out there that have to spend at least $75 a month for the box of 100 strips. That’s a crime, I tells ya. A crime.
The biggest (pun intended) news we got today was at our sonogram. First, the baby is head down and ready to go. No more frank breech position. Woo hoo! At my last sonogram three weeks ago, she weighed approximately 3lbs, 11 oz. Today, she weighed 5lbs, 8 oz. That’s a gain of almost 2lbs in three weeks! My dr even called her a little fattie! Like mother, like daughter, eh? I was like that little boy pointing and shouting, “Look how fat she is!!” She’s in the 70th percentile for weight. See, I told you she’s an over-achiever. She doesn’t need 40 weeks gestation and she’s not trying to be “average” anything. The nice part is that if she were born now, she’d weigh enough to get to go home. Our hospital’s NICU doesn’t let babies go home unless they’re over 5lbs. The sono tech said she’s guessing Maddie will be about 7.5lbs when she’s born. Meanwhile, I’ve gained 10lbs since I got pregnant. Not too shabby seeing as 5.5 of that is my Fattie Maddie. The other five went to my boobs. Seriously…. how big are they going to get? Is there a limit, or will they just explode one day? Oh…. back in Uncomfortable Territory, are we? You probably ought to get used to it.
Oh! Have you seen this??? Here we are, praying that our baby comes before 12/31 because we’ve not only paid our deductible, but we’ve also paid our maximum out-of-pocket with our insurance company this year, and not to mention the tax credit for 2006. All we need to do, apparently, is move to Germany. Sheesh!

This is good news Erica.
BTW that thing in Germany is due to a negative birthrate and those rules come into effect from 01-01-2007.
Warm hugs,
Paul.
Great news about the fat baby! I had the fattest baby you every saw. Now he is 6′1 and 150 pounds! A New Years Eve baby would be nice!
My fingers are crossed!
Huggs
